ฮินดูสถาน (เปอร์เซีย: هندوستان, ) มีรูปสั้นว่า ฮินด์ (هند) เป็นชื่อในภาษาเปอร์เซียที่ใช้เรียกอินเดียตอนเหนือหรืออนุทวีปอินเดีย (อย่างกว้าง) ซึ่งต่อมาผู้อยู่อาศัยในภูมิภาคดังกล่าวได้รับไปใช้ในภาษาฮินดี–อูรดู (ฮินดูสถาน) ภูมินามอื่น ๆ ของอนุทวีปนี้คือ ชมพูทวีป, (ภารตะ) และ อินเดีย หลังการขีดเส้นแบ่งอินเดีย ยังมีการใช้ชื่อ ฮินดูสถาน ต่อมาในฐานะชื่อเก่าแก่ชื่อหนึ่งของสาธารณรัฐอินเดีย
ในฐานะศัพท์ภูมิศาสตร์เก่าแก่ ฮินดูสถาน หมายถึงดินแดนแห่งแม่น้ำสินธุ ความหมายรองของ ฮินดูสถาน ในฐานะศัพท์ภูมิศาสตร์คือที่ราบลุ่มแม่น้ำสินธุ-คงคาในอินเดียตอนเหนือ
