ประวัติศาสตร์

วิทยาลัยก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 1886 ในชื่อ วิทยาลัยแพทยศาสตร์กัลกัตตา (Calcutta School of Medicine) โดยแรกเริ่มไม่มีโรงพยาบาลสอน และต้องฝึกสอนจากโรงพยาบาลเมโย (Mayo Hospital) อาคารโรงพยาบาลก่อสร้างขึ้นในปี 1902 และในปี 1916 เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็นวิทยาลัยแพทยศาสตร์เพงคาจิยา (Belgachia Medical College) ในปี 1918 ถึง 1948 วิทยาลัยใช้ชื่อว่า วิทยาลัยแพทยศาสตร์คาร์มีเคิล (Carmichael Medical College) ตามชื่อของ ผู้ว่าการรัฐเบงกอลในปี 1916 ชื่อปัจจุบันนั้นเริ่มใช้เมื่อวันที่ 12 พฤษภาคม 1948 โดยตั้งชื่อตามนายแพทย์
