อวาริส (อักษรโรมัน: Avaris, /ˈævərɪs/; อียิปต์: ḥw.t wꜥr.t, บางครั้งแปลว่า ฮัต-วาเรต; กรีกโบราณ: Αὔαρις, อักษรโรมัน: Auaris; กรีก: Άβαρις, อักษรโรมัน: Ávaris; อาหรับ: حوّارة, อักษรโรมัน: Hawwara) เป็นเมืองหลวงของประเทศอียิปต์ภายใต้การปกครองของชาวฮิกซอส ซึ่งปัจจุบันตั้งอยู่ใน ในภูมิภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของ เนื่องจากเป็นเส้นทางหลักของแม่น้ำไนล์ที่ไหลไปทางตะวันออก ตำแหน่งศูนย์กลางของอียิปต์ ทำให้กลายเป็นเมืองหลวงทางการค้าที่สำคัญ ภายหลังฟาโรห์อาโมสที่ 1 ทรงยึดครองเมืองนี้ประมาณศตวรรษที่ 18 ก่อนคริสตกาล

ชื่อในภาษาอียิปต์เมื่อสหัสวรรษที่ 2 ก่อนคริสตกาลอาจออกเสียงเป็น *Ḥaʔət-Waʕrəʔ หมายความว่า “บ้านแห่งภูมิภาค” และสื่อถึงเมืองหลวงของเขตปกครอง (wʕr.t) ในปัจจุบันยังมีชื่อเมืองที่คล้ายกันคือ เมืองฮาวารา ซึ่งตั้งอยู่บริเวณเขตฟัยยูม หรือที่เรียกชื่อเมืองนี้ว่า "อาไทน์รา" (Athyria)
