รูเบนส์เคยตอบคำถามกับเว็บไซต์ Collider ในปี 2015 เมื่อถูกถามว่า เขาจะแสดงในคาแรกเตอร์ พี-วี เฮอร์แมน ไปอีกนานเท่าไร เขาตอบแบบสั้น ๆ แบบไม่ลืมอารมณ์ขันว่า
“ผมก็ไม่รู้สิครับ ถ้าใครบอกว่าผมจะยังทำสิ่งนี้ในอีก 30 ปีต่อมา ผมคงหัวเราะแน่ ๆ แต่ตอนนี้ ผมวางแผนแล้วว่าผมจะทำมันไปอีกสัก 30 ปี ตอนที่ผมอายุครบ 140 ปี ไรงี้…”
การเสียชีวิต
พอล รูเบนส์ ได้เสียชีวิตลงในวัย 70 ปี ตัวแทนของรูเบนส์ได้ประกาศข่าวการเสียชีวิตของเขาผ่านทาง Instagram ส่วนตัวของรูเบนส์ เมื่อวันที่ 31 กรกฏาคมที่ผ่านมา ระบุสาเหตุว่าเสียชีวิตด้วยโรคมะเร็ง ที่เขาต้องเผชิญมายาวนานกว่า 6 ปีเป็นการส่วนตัวโดยที่ไม่ได้แจ้งต่อสาธารณะชน โดยแถลงการณ์ระบุว่า
“เมื่อค่ำคืนที่ผ่านมา เราได้กล่าวคำอำลากับ พอล รูเบนส์ นักแสดงตลก นักเขียน และโปรดิวเซอร์ชาวอเมริกันผู้มีชื่อเสียง ผู้ซึ่งเป็นตัวละคร พี-วี เฮอร์แมน อันเป็นที่รัก ที่ได้สร้างความสุขให้กับเด็ก ๆ และผู้ใหญ่ในช่วงชีวิต ด้วยทัศนคติเชิงบวก ความขี้เล่น และความเชื่อมั่นในความสำคัญของความเห็นอกเห็นใจ”
“พอลต้องต่อสู้กับโรคมะเร็งอย่างกล้าหาญ และเป็นส่วนตัวมานานหลายปีด้วยความดื้อรั้นและเฉลียวฉลาด มีพรสวรรค์และความสามารถล้นเหลือ อันเป็นเครื่องหมายการค้าของเขา เขาจะยังคงอยู่ต่อไปในวิหารแห่งความตลกขบขัน และอยู่ในหัวใจของเรา ในฐานะเพื่อนผู้เป็นที่รัก และเป็นบุคคลผู้มีนิสัยโดดเด่นและมีความเอื้อเฟื้อเผื่อแผ่”
นอกจากนี้ในโพสต์เดียวกัน ยังได้มีการโพสต์ข้อความส่วนตัวของรูเบนส์เกี่ยวกับโรคมะเร็งที่เขาเผชิญมาอย่างยาวนานโดยไม่ได้เปิดเผยให้แฟน ๆ ได้รับทราบ
“โปรดรับคำขอโทษจากผมด้วย ที่ไม่ได้เปิดเผยต่อสาธารณะ ในสิ่งที่ผมต้องเผชิญมาตลอด 6 ปี ผมรู้สึกได้ถึงความรัก และความเคารพอย่างมากมายจากเพื่อน ๆ แฟนคลับ และผู้สนับสนุนของผมทุกคน ผมรักพวกคุณทุกคนมาก ๆ และมีความสุขมาก ๆ ที่ได้ทำงานสร้างศิลปะเพื่อพวกคุณ”
