นกเป็ดผีใหญ่ (อังกฤษ: Great Crested Grebe) เป็นนกน้ำใน
ลักษณะ
นกเป็ดผีใหญ่มีลำตัวยาว 46-51 ซม.ช่วงปีกกว้าง 59-73 ซม. ว่ายน้ำและดำน้ำเก่ง สามารถจับปลาจากใต้น้ำได้ ปากแหลมสีเนื้อแกทชมพู คอยาว หน้าผาก กระหม่อม ท้ายทอย หลังคอ และหลังสีน้ำตาลเข้ม มีแถบดำจากมุมปากถึงตา หน้า ข้างคอ และลำตัวด้านล่างสีขาว สีข้างน้ำตาลแกมแดง ในฤดูผสมพันธุ์จะมีหงอนฟูสีดำ ข้างแก้มมีขนยาวเป็นแผ่นสีน้ำตาลแดงและดำ ปากสีชมพูเข้ม
ลูกนกสังเกตได้ง่าย เนื่องจากหัวมีลายทางขาว-ดำ คล้ายม้าลาย และลายทางจะหายไปเมื่อโตเต็มวัย
การกระจายพันธุ์
นกเป็ดผีใหญ่ผสมพันธุ์กันในบริเวณดงพืชน้ำในทะเลสาบน้ำจืด ชนิดย่อย P. c. cristatus พบในยุโรปจรดเอเชีย เป็นนกประจำถิ่นในบริเวณการกระจายพันธุ์ค่อนไปทางตะวันตก ในบริเวณที่เหลือจะเป็นนกอพยพจากพื้นที่หนาวเย็น ในฤดูหนาวจะพบได้ตามทะเลสาบน้ำจืดและอ่างเก็บน้ำหรือชายฝั่ง ชนิดย่อย P. c. infuscatus ในแอฟริกาและชนิดย่อย P. c. australis ในออสเตรเลียมักอยู่ประจำถิ่น
