ไมเคิล อริส

ไมเคิล เวเลียนคอร์ท อริส (27 มีนาคม 1946 – 27 มีนาคม 1999) เป็นนักเขียนหนังสือเกี่ยวกับวัฒนธรรมภูฏาน, ธิเบตและหิมาลัย และเขียนหนังสือมากมายเกี่ยวกับศาสนาพุทธ เขาเป็นคู่สมรสของผู้นำฝ่ายค้านในพม่า ออง ซาน ซูจี

อริสเกิดที่อาบานา ประเทศคิวบา มารดาชื่อโจเซตเต อริส เป็นลูกสาวของนักการทูตแคนาดา กับบิดาชาวอังกฤษชื่อ จอห์น อริส เป็นเจ้าหน้าที่ของ

ภายหลังจากสำเร็จการศึกษาจากโรงเรียนวอร์ธในซัสเซ็กซ์และได้รับปริญญาสาขาประวัติศาสตร์สมัยใหม่ที่ วิทยาลัย St Cuthbert's Society มหาวิทยาลัยเดอรัม ในปี 1967 อริสใช้เวลาหกปีเป็นติวเตอร์ส่วนพระองค์ในราชวงศ์ของประเทศภูฏาน

อริสได้เป็นนักวิชาการและผู้บรรยายในประวัติศาสตร์เอเชียที่วิทยาลัยเซนต์จอห์น และต่อมาที่วิทยาลัยเซนต์แอนโทนี่ มหาวิทยาลัยออกซฟอร์ด และในปีสุดท้ายก่อนที่เขาจะเสียชีวิต เขามีส่วนช่วยเหลือในการก่อตั้งศูนย์ศึกษาทิเบตและหิมาลัยที่มหาวิทยาลัยออกซฟอร์ด
