การทำแผนที่ (อังกฤษ: cartography จากภาษากรีก χάρτης chartēs แปลว่า "พาไพรัส, แผ่นกระดาษ หรือแผนที่"; และ γράφειν graphein แปลว่า "เขียน") เป็นการศึกษาและการปฏิบัติเกี่ยวกับการสร้างและใช้แผนที่ ซึ่งผสมผสานระหว่างวิทยาศาสตร์ สุนทรียศาสตร์ และเทคนิค โดยตั้งอยู่บนสมมุติฐานที่ว่า ความเป็นจริง (หรือความเป็นจริงที่นึกวาดไว้) สามารถจำลองขึ้นในลักษณะที่สื่อข้อมูลเชิงพื้นที่ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพอย่างแน่นอน
